Do you ever worry about your future? Do you ever feel like you are not ready for adulthood and all the responsibilities that come along?
Well… you are not alone. Everybody has to pass through that transition stage unless you die early (God forbid). And things do work out if you have a few things right.
A great man called Hermann Goering would ask, “Would you rather have butter or guns? Preparedness makes us powerful. Butter merely makes us fat.” That is just the perfect analogy. Now… this article is not aimed at dressing you in combat armor but, you will get a few pointers to help you swim upstream.
Let’s get to it…
1. Learn to Overcome Setbacks
One thing is for sure…
Setbacks are a part of life. And the easiest way to overcome them is to expect them. Rejection, and breakups, loss of loved ones, loss of jobs, and failure, the plate is full. They will all come knocking at any given time.
But don’t get scared.
Life is a learning process and, every time you fail, you get up wiser. Kelly Clarkson made a beautiful hit song, ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.’ Every time life knocks you down, you better listen to it. If you aren’t dead yet, dust yourself up and get ready for the next step.
2. Learn how to do Business
This is the best thing that you could do for yourself. Soon after college, you are going to get employment, or perhaps you are already there. Please don’t settle for that. The cruel reality is that a group of more energetic youth will be throwing you out of the job market sooner than you know.
It’s good to start associating with people who can teach you how to do business. Learn the loops in your field of study. Keep an eye on the opportunities and pursue them. The best thing to do is, start saving up and open that business.
That way, you will be securing a future where getting fired is not a thing that raises your adrenalin. Better yet, having a side hustle will supplement your income to cater to the ever-increasing responsibilities.
3. Seize Opportunities
The greatest hindrance to what most people want to do with their lives is fear. Opportunities are scattered all over but, most people will tell you they are not ready. In reality, it’s not about readiness but fear of failure.
Honestly, nobody is ever ready. Seriously… most great CEOs will tell you they were never ready for their positions but, they took the bull by the horns. So, as much as you don’t feel ready, you need to believe in yourself.
Take that managerial position you have been promoted to. Take that viable business opportunity that has been presented to you. It could be the next big thing for you.
4. Marry Right
Two things will make you unsuccessful in life, a nagging wife and a shoe that hurts. But there is no need to be biased. A stressful husband is equally toxic. So, invest your time finding the right partner for you and equally building yourself to be a great partner.
The most distressing thing that could happen to anyone is not having peace at home. Home is where you find love, peace, and support.
Imagine leaving the pressure in the office only to get home to a husband that beats the hell out of you for a minor disagreement. Imagine getting home to a wife who doesn’t appreciate you. You will never perform. So, take your time.
5. Travel
The benefits that come with traveling cannot be overemphasized. You find new opportunities and expose your mind to new possibilities. Whenever you travel, you don’t get back home as the same person who left.
Travelling also helps you ease the stress you face daily. It gets you thinking straight. Who wants to live the same life every day anyway? Deal with terrible traffic in the morning, listen to your reprimanding boss the whole day, and go back to your wife day in day out?
Honestly, that’s like signing up for slow death. Take that vacation whenever you can.
Bottom-line
Life is unforgiving, but as long as you take control of things, it will be much easier to get along. Expect failure, but keep pushing through the setbacks you face with the lessons you learn. Have a business-oriented mindset and seize the opportunities that come your way.
Get a good partner for yourself, somebody who supports you and is willing to see you succeed. Lastly, explore whatever else the world has to offer.
